Searching for Before- & After-School Care

The Family Care Office offers a series of workshops (filter by child care) including Searching for Before- and After-School Care in the GTA, Searching for Child Care in the GTA, applying for subsidies, and preparing for early years child care.

Across the Greater Toronto Area, before- and after-school programs provide support to families with children in Kindergarten to Grade 6 by offering supervised activities.

Programs are located in schools and community locations and generally operate five days a week, for a few hours before school starts in the morning and/or after school ends in the afternoon. Some also operate on professional activity days and school breaks. Some before- and after-care programs have full-time care available during the summer months.

Ask your school if there is a before-after program within the school or programs that drop off and pick up children from your school. Add yourself to the waitlist as soon as possible. People often add themselves to before- and after-care waitlists well before their children begin attending school.

There may also be community programs that drop off and pick up from your school. For community-based programs, use the City of Toronto’s Before-After School finder or the Peel Region’s Before-After School Program Finder.
