Nursing at U of T

A directory of the places on U of T campuses to breastfeed, chestfeed or pump. These spaces are comfortable and quiet. Some are private and some are available for pumping.

Please remember, however, it is your right to breastfeed, chestfeed or pump anywhere on campus!

St. George Campus

St. George Campus Map of Family-Friendly Locations

Athletic Centre Complex, Warren Stevens Building, 55 Harbord St., 1st Floor (not available)

  • Space is available in the lobby off the Classic Ave entrance.
  • More private space is available in the 50m Pool Gallery or the Pool Gallery for the Teach Pool (children’s pool).
  • Baby change stations in the public washrooms on the 1st Floor (Room 1057 and 1058).

Athletic Centre Complex, Clara Benson Building, 320 Huron St., (2 breastfeeding locations in the building)

  • Student or membership ID required to enter the building.
  • 3rd Floor, Room 315 is adjacent to, but entirely separate from, a washroom. Has a comfortable couch for breastfeeding.
  • Student Lounge, 2nd floor, is available but is generally not a private nor quiet space.
  • Baby change stations in the 2nd Floor washrooms of 55 Harbord St. (Room 2053 and 2054). Membership ID required. Also, with membership ID you can access baby change stations in B59 Women’s Main Change and B29 Family Change Room.

Brennan Lounge, Brennan Hall (81 St. Mary Street) of St. Michael’s College.

  • Comfortable though not private space
  • Lounge is located on the first floor and has a small quiet seating area which adjoins the women’s washroom (located across from the Chaplaincy office).

Chemistry Department, Family Room, Lash Miller Chemical Laboratories, 80 St. George Street

  • Chemistry students, postdocs, faculty and staff who have a lab key can access a Family Room in the Graduate Student Lounge (Room 406A, Lash Miller).
  • The Family Room is a dedicated space to nurse, pump, change diapers and be with children
  • Family Room has a change station

Early Learning Centre, 7 Glen Morris Street

  • Buzz the front door entrance at 7 Glen Morris St. between 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Baby change station also available.

Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, 246 Bloor St. W.

  • Private space is bookable through the General Office (2nd floor).
  • A change station is available in the 7th floor single-user washroom (northwest corner of the building). A change mat is available upon request from the General Office (2nd floor).

Family Care Office, 215 Huron Street, 6th floor, suite 603

  • Comfortable, clean, quiet waiting room. Depending on the time of day, access to a private office might be possible. Open weekdays 9 am to 5 pm.
  • A change station is available in the 6th floor single-user washroom.

Grad Room, 66 Harbord Street

  • Lounge area and a multi-purpose space on the lower level. This area can be crowded.
  • Graduate students can sign-out the multi-purpose room when it is not in use.
  • Monday to Friday 9 am – 5 pm

Hart House, 7 Hart House Circle, Map and Reading Rooms

  • Both rooms are comfortable, public areas
  • For privacy, request a key at the HUB (7 am – 11:45 pm) for the North Sitting Room (when not in use). This room has a chair and power source. T-Card or a piece of photo ID required. Hart House does have an elevator.
  • Change stations are in the women’s and men’s washrooms opposite the Arbor Room on the lower level (Room 159 & 160) and in the single-user accessible washroom on the ground floor opposite the Great Hall (Room 1030).

Health and Well-being Programs and Services, 263 McCaul Street, 2nd Floor (not available)

  • Quiet but not a private space available between 9 am and 5 pm. Enter through the main entrance of Health Sciences Building, 155 College Street (Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing) on the southeast corner of McCaul and College Streets. Take the elevator to the second floor. Follow signs for “Wheel Chair access to 263 McCaul Street”. The directions will take you to a crossover bridge leading to the second floor of 263 McCaul Street.
  • Health Sciences Building, 155 College St., has a baby change station in their men’s and women’s washrooms on the 6th floor.

Health Sciences Building, 155 College, 1st floor women’s washroom (east side of the building)

  • Parent & Baby room available inside the women’s washroom (room 183) in the hallway heading to Faculty of Nursing Reception
  • Parent & Baby room is adjacent to but entirely separate from the washroom and has a comfortable recliner; has an electrical outlet for pumping and a change table
  • Baby change stations in both men’s and women’s washrooms are on the 6th floor

Medical Sciences Building (MSB), Room 3237A 1 King’s College Circle, 3rd Floor

  • Secure, designated room with a change table

OISE, 252 Bloor St. W. (two breastfeeding locations in the building)

  • The First Aid Room (C-171) on the concourse level can be accessed between 8 am and 4:30 pm by visiting the Mail Room (C-100, near the elevators) to ask for access. After 4:30 pm, request access via the security desk in the lobby (416.978.3636). To arrange evening access in advance, please contact Jeananne Robertson at jt.robertson@utoronto.ca (not available)
  • The Early Learning Centre (OISE site) offers a comfortable location. Buzz a staff member to be let in. This area is available from 8 – 11 am and 12 – 4 pm weekdays.
  • Change station is located in the women’s washroom on the 5th Floor.

Robarts Library, 130 St. George Street, 8th floor, Room 8037 and 9th floor, Room 9004 (TCard required for access)

  • A side room adjoining but separate from a women’s washroom in Room 8037, on the 8th floor is available. This room is a quiet space with an electrical outlet.
  • A side room adjoining but separate with a door from a women’s washroom in Room 9004, on the 9th floor is available. This room is a quiet space with an electrical outlet.
  • Change stations can be found in single-occupant, all gender, accessible washroom 1-013; gendered, multi-user washrooms 3-053, 3-005, 9-004, 9-007.

Rotman School of Management, 105 St. George Street, South Building Room 3091 (internal community with fob access)

  • Space is accessible by Rotman students, faculty, staff who have fob access
  • This room is a shared space however controlled access has been implemented to ensure privacy.
  • Email frontdesk@rotman.utoronto.ca or phone 416-946-7557 to reserve the space and sign out a key. Accessible from 6:30 am to 9 pm during Monday to Friday during building hours of operation. Weekend access can be facilitated when booked in advance.
  • The room is set up with soft seating, table and small refrigerator.
  • Baby change station can be found in the single-user accessible washroom, South Building, lower level room LL1001.

Sidney Smith Hall, 100 St. George Street, ground floor (not available)

  • Private, quiet space is available for breastfeeding during the day on a drop-in basis at APUS in Room SS1089.
  • Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 7 pm and Fridays from 10 am to 5 pm
  • Change station in the single-user accessible washroom in the south-east corner of building on the ground floor.

School of Graduate Studies, 63 St. George Street, 1st floor Student Lounge

  • Space available in the Student Lounge on the 1st Floor of 63 St. George Street. The room is comfortable though not a private space. A three-panel room divider is available to create a more privacy, if needed.
  • Change station is available, down the hall, inside the all-gender, accessible washroom.

Sussex Court, 21 Sussex Avenue, 4th floor Student Lounge, Room 421

  • Student lounge is a quiet and comfortable location.
  • The building has a short flight of stairs to the main entrance (you can access a lift from street level to the main entrance), and an elevator inside that will accommodate a stroller. Generally this room is open weekdays and weekends from 8 am to 9 pm.
  • Baby change station in its single-user washroom on the 4th floor, Room 402.

UTSC Campus

Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC), 875 Morningside Ave

  • Ask at the Front Desk and staff will find you a space that is convenient and private. It will likely be in the First Aid Centre or the Daycare Centre that are both steps away from the Front Desk on the main floor.

The Women and Trans* Centre, Student Centre, SL224

  • An open, inclusive space. Can use couches, cushions and blankets in the office. Please contact Radhika Gupta at 650-963-6656 (available via iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal) or email: internalcoordinator.wc@gmail.com or Arya at 781-816-3786 (also available via iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal) or at financecoordinator.wc@gmail.com if there is anything you need to feel welcome and comfortable.
  • The Centre is open between 12 pm – 6 pm Mondays through Thursday and 12 pm – 4 pm on Fridays.
  • Scarborough Campus Students’ Union (SCSU) in the Student Centre — Room SL-108 has baby change stations in the women’s and men’s washrooms.

UTSC Human Resources Department, Bladen Wing, 5th Floor Rooms BV534 and/or BV527

  • Private spot with an electrical outlet, with a table and a chair for your comfort.
  • To make arrangements to use this space, please contact the Human Resources Department at humanresources.utsc@utoronto.ca
  • Bladen Wing (BV) has baby change stations in the men’s washroom (B200) and the women’s washroom (B220) on the second floor by the Tim Horton’s.

Infant Feeding Room (SW 524) 

  • Comfortable armchair, as well as a microwave, fridge, and sink to facilitate all kinds of infant feeding activities. Caregivers of all genders are welcome to use the space.
  • Access requires both a booking and a fob to unlock the door. Request fob access from your business officer/department administrator. Graduate students and postdocs can contact Gisela Bento, Campus Graduate & Postdoctoral Coordinator. Make a booking for a specific date and time on the intranet . Once logged in, there is an item on the left side of the home screen under Quick links for the Infant Feeding Room. No personal information will be visible once the booking is made.

UTM Campus

Academic Annex (AX second-floor lounge)

  • A quiet lounge on a floor with limited through-traffic, located directly across from Room 212 (behind the shelving unit)
  • A sink, couch, chairs, table and a number of electrical outlets are available
  • Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm (excluding statutory holidays and university closures)
  • A change station is available in the adjacent men’s washroom (Room 215) and women’s washroom (Room 213)
  • Please note, however, this space is not wheelchair accessible

Academic Annex (AX 224)

  • A room with a lockable door with a chair, table and electrical outlets
  • Bookable through utm@utoronto.ca
  • Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm (excluding statutory holidays and university closures)
  • A change station is available in the second floor’s men’s washroom (Room 215) and women’s washroom (Room 213)
  • Please note, however, this space is not wheelchair accessible

Communication, Culture & Technology (CCT) Building, third floor (in the hallway beside the Department of Visual Studies offices)

  • A quiet and calm non-private area (there is an electrical plug under the bench)
  • Available Monday to Friday when the building is open (excluding statutory holidays and university closures)
  • A change station is available in the fourth-floor women’s washroom (Room 4105)
  • This space is wheelchair accessible

Instructional Centre, 2nd and 3rd floor

  • The small seating areas are not private, but are quiet, have comfortable chairs
  • Available Monday to Friday when the building is open (excluding statutory holidays and university closures)
  • These spaces are wheelchair accessible

UTM Mamava Pod 

  • Communications, Culture, and Technology (CCT) Building, First floor in front of Art Gallery/MiST Theatre
  • Comfortable, clean, quiet, lockable private space
  • Access code and vacancy notification through Mamava Pod app
  • Wheelchair and stroller accessible
  • Open daily during university building hours of 6 am to 11 pm (excluding statutory holidays and university closures)
  • Nearest baby change station 4th floor CCT building washrooms or Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Centre building (adjacent).

University of Toronto Mississauga Women & Gender Equity Centre, Maanjiwe nendamowinan (MN 2285)

  • Couch and chairs, and an electrical outlet for pumping
  • The Centre is open during office hours.
  • The Centre is wheelchair accessible.
  • The walls of the Centre are glass so the space is quiet but not private. Screens can be moved to create a more private space on request.
